History of Cells & Microscope

We will gather a little background knowledge on the development of the microscope and the discovery of cells. This information will be important in understanding what cells are and lead into the different processes and importance of cells.

Microscope Lab

We will be using the microscope for the first time today. I will demonstrate how to handle and use the microscope. The class will be put in groups of 3-4 and you will be working together to focus the microscope and fill out a short worksheet on how to use the microscope. If you do a good job and properly using the microscope, you can use the rest of class to look at a variety of slides that we have.

Characteristics of Living Things Review & Quiz

We will review the characteristics of living things and talk about specific examples for each of the 6 characteristics. The second half of class will be spent taking the quiz.  After the bell ringer we will take a short kahoot to help review the discussion from yesterday.

Characteristics of Living Things

We will go into more detail about the 6 characteristics that all living things need. We will look at the google slides presentation and I will answer any questions you have over the characteristics.

Characteristics of Living Things

We will continue where we left off last week. Last week we went through and identified things you felt were living and why. Today we will look at the specific characteristics that all living things must have to be considered living. We will brainstorm individually & as a group, then research to find out what the experts say.

Is It Living?

We will continue with our Cell Unit today, before we start learning about cells we need to figure out how to identify whether or not something is living. We will spend the next two days working on what classifies something as living or nonliving.

Introduction to Cells

Welcome back! We will be starting our 2nd Unit on Cells, just like the Matter Unit, we will complete an I Can Statement, take a Pretest & Is It Living Probe. I also have a short introductory video on Cells in general that we will watch.
