We are now moving on from the rock cycle to how geoscience processes have change the Earth. How have volcanoes, earthquakes, continental drift all changed the surface of the Earth over time.  We will watch a video of the history of Earth.

We will continue with the types of rocks foldable. Instead of a bell ringer use the first 15 minutes to finish up your foldable. Types of Rocks

We will be focusing on the different types of rocks today and how they are formed. You will be completing a foldable over the three different types of rocks. Also, don't forget that your comic over the rock cycle is due as well. Please get that in to me as soon as possible.

We will be starting our second unit on Earth' Systems. We will start the unit by looking at how materials flow through a cycle. Specifically looking at how processes act together to form minerals and rocks (rock cycle). We will beginning the unit with a pretest, probe on what rocks are & and interactive vocabulary activity.

Investigation on Matter

We will start our investigation on whether or not matter can be created or destroyed. You and a partner will pick a side, then design a test to see if you are correct. You will be trying to prove either matter can or can not be created or destroyed. You need to make sure that as you carry out your test you are collecting data to back up your findings. Be creative with your test, the possibilities are endless.

Energy Investigation

We will begin our investigation on energy. You will build a device to melt an ice cube, but will only be allowed a few materials. Be creative and a good group member. This activity will be fun and challenging.

We will continue are discussion on states of matter and what makes them change. We will finish up the States of Matter Foldable, look at the changes diagrams & complete the Change of State Cut/Paste. All three of these activities will help you predict and explain what happens when you add or remove energy to a substance.

What are compounds, Element Activity

To start class we will discuss what compounds are and how to identify them from other types of matter. From there we will move on to our second type of matter, elements. We briefly talked about elements when we discussed the Periodic Table. We will take a more indepth look at what they are today.

We will finish up the weather investigation today. You will get the majority of class to complete the investigation packet. When you are done please turn it in through google classroom. We will continue with our investigation on patterns in the atmosphere and how they influence weather. The first half of class will be spent researching on your specific topic. The second half of class will be spent discussing with your classmates and gathering information on how their topic influences weather.

Start Investigation

We will begin our final investigation of the year. You will pick one of the four topic to investigate, ocean currents, jet stream, composition of the atmosphere and global winds. We know that all four influence our weather, but what you need to figure out is how patterns in your topic impact weather. An example would be how do certain patterns in the ocean currents create different weather patterns in certain areas.

We will start the first half of class with a Jigsaw activity to get you more familiar with the different atmospheric properties. You will be in charge of reading through and teaching your classmates about one of the specific topics. After the Jigsaw activity you will start to investigate one of the four topics that most interests you.

The main focus of this unit will be looking at how certain patterns and properties of the atmosphere impact the weather and climate. You will have 20 minutes to finish your Body Mag. article and submit it through the link on the blog. After that we will use the remainder of class to finish up the CCTT and the choir kids that missed the survey can complete that as well. We will be finalizing your body articles for the human body performance assessment. Remember this is your final assessment for the human body unit. Please take your time and make sure you have included everything necessary to receive the grade you want. Today will be the last day in class to work on the articles.

We will continue with working on your article.  You will get into groups of 3 and read each others articles. You will be given a checklist of things to look for and a section to leave notes on what they can improve overall all and what you feel they did a really good job on. Remember you are partially in charge of your group members success. They will be looking at your feedback to decide what changes they possible will need to make.

Start Body System Performance Assessment

We will be starting our final project for the Body System Unit. You will be writing an article on how systems work together with examples, how a specific breakdown affects the body and if there is an cure/treatment. We will use the stoplight activity to outline your information for the articles. This is the same process that we used during the Matter Book. We will review the process, you will hand write the outline and use google docs to write the rough draft.

Breakdowns and the Body

How do breakdowns effect the body? Hopefully you found out how your breakdown attacked the body and how that impacts the way a system functions. We will discuss as a class how your specific breakdown effects the body and then try to figure out how breakdowns in general effect the body.

You will begin your individual investigation on a specific breakdown. Use multiple resources even if you can find all the information for the packet at one source make sure it is accurate by finding at least one more source to verify the information. You will have the first half of class to finish your human body guide, if you do not get done you are more than welcome to borrow one of the Science books to work on it during seminar or at home. We will do a short check on the levels of organization and then move our focus to Systems. We will do a short probe over what systems are in general and then you will be working on a body system organizer to become more familiar with the major body systems we will be focusing on this unit.

We will be starting the Human Body Unit today. We will go over some of the basics to start the unit such as, Pretest and I Can Statements. To start the unit you will go over a Blendspace on Levels of Organization, this will be the bridge between the Cell Unit and Human Body Unit. We will have a short discussion on the 3 main cell processes. Afterwards we will go over the rubric for the Cell Unit Performance Assessment, the Cell Commercial. This is the final project for the unit. It will combine the knowledge you have gained over the past two investigation. We will spend a good deal of time on this activity, but you will need to use your time wisely and effectively.

We will review unicellular and multicellular organisms to start the class. From there we will transition into our investigation on specialized cells, You will pick 2-4 specific cells to look at and investigate how they are built and what specific jobs they do.
